I have an intermittent battery malfunction warning light appearing on the dashboard of my EQC which is now two years old. I intermittently get the battery warning light showing up typically when I return to the car during the day. The Mercedes dealership seems unable to diagnose the root cause. They told me that they had made "software updates" to the car .... whatever that means. I left the car with them for over a week whilst I was out of the country but upon returning the day after I picked it up the battery malfunction warning light again appeared on my dashboard. So basically I have no confidence to drive the car incase there is a catastrophic failure of the battery. Has anyone else experienced this or a similar problem and, if so, can you direct me to a solution. Any other words of wisdom would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi Mike - We're having the same issue on EQC. Was MB able to sort it out? Are you able to clear the fault anyhow?

Regards,
Alex
Alex, the MB dealer tried to resolve the issue, however, two days after I collected the car the same malfunction light came on and then again a week later the same thing happened yet again. I’m monitoring the malfunctions and logging them as and when they occur. So In short, it appears that they have not sorted the root cause. Each time the malfunction lights come on the dashboard they have then disappeared when I have pressed the ignition button. Charging does not seem to be affected nor does the performance of the car. But as you can imagine my worry is that the battery will malfunction and that I’ll be stranded. I’ll be calling up the MB dealer next week to report my observations and requesting a replacement car until they have successfully identified and resolved the root cause. One of the big issues is the MB dealers reluctance to provide a replacement car. I’ve been advised that you need to just drive in, declare it’s a breakdown and insist on them providing a replacement car. I just don’t have the time to play all these “games”. Despite being a loyal Mercedes customer for more than 20 years, I’m not going to be sticking with a Merc after multiple incidents with this EQC. Parktronic doesn’t function, air conditioning was not working for months, etc, etc. I’ve had enough! For a car costing upwards of £70,000 it’s just not acceptable and is verging on mis-selling. I attach a copy of the tests and updates which the technicians claim to have done but as I say the problem persists. Please share with me your experience and, hopefully, solution as they unfold. Michael

Hi Alex, in answer to your question …. yes the fault does clear but its a very unnerving to see the malfunction ligh appearing on the dashboard. I have no confidence in the reliability of the EQC.

Take it to another dealer. This should be a easy fix. It’s a shame I can’t see the fault codes that they cleared.
Let me see if I can find these fault codes in the Mercedes service sheet. I’m out of the country at the moment but will certainly be able to look into this when I get back later in March. It’s bizarre, the frequency or the malfunction light has reduced from daily to maybe weekly but it still pops out when you least expect it. The range at the moment is shockingly low. I was down at 173 miles on full charge last week. It’s crept up a bit but is still well short of the “claimed” range.

We will need the full list of all control units and codes they had stored. ( Initial Quick Test)
With the range issue, because you’re having intermittent High Voltage warnings the system has miss calculated the battery level. To resolve this run the battery until the reserve battery level is reached (a yellow warning illuminate) then charge the vehicle to 100%. The control units will then re calculate. ✌

Hi we have had the same issues on an EQA used - 11 months old 6500 miles picked it up Saturday - done 100 miles then this morning after half a mile beep and warning light red battery malfunction cannot control gears contact workshop , returned home pressed call out button in car and RAC came - they diagnostic and said software update - same thing happened again as soon as I left the house . No one at dealership had heard of this before and I panicked so I have requested a full refund as I am in my 14 day cooling off period. I love the car so gonna get another and hope for the best ! Was I panicking over nothing ? Was concerned it would become a reoccurring fault after no assurance of solutions and Google forums like this

The dealership should be able to request technical assistance from the factory, this process only takes a few minutes of typing on the computer! Don’t let them fob you off.

It’s quite bizarre and very unprofessional that Mercedes don’t have the ability to pool information on malfunctions using the diagnostics capture and coordinate an effective solution. I certainly wont be ordering another Mercedes EV for the foreseeable future. Their customer service is woeful.

Mercedes does have a massive infrastructure for pooling malfunctions/information. They have a technical help desk, technical bulletin system, predictive repair via diagnostics machines, remote diagnostics via Mercedes me and the EV training offered to dealers. Plus more…
Are you using the same dealership every time?

Yes, I’ve been using the same dealership for 20 years. Its proximity makes it the easiest for me to get to. its a Stratstone Dealership. Surely Mercedes must technically assess and audit them to ensure quality? Or not ?
