Here in France we have to subscribe to an internet in the car service via SFR (french Vodafone) for the internet services to work via the car as opposed to via the phone hotspot etc. I pay 120 euro for a year or 50gb. Even when using the internet for the radio all the time and my partner usually is using their phone when a passenger 50gb seems to last they year easily.
I would imagine the same sort of thing operates elsewhere? So the car is equipped to be able to use data from a provider but here we only have the choice of SFR or you can use your own phone hotspot. I have found the car is far better than using the phone as clearly the aerial is better.
Ask you dealer who the provider is in Australia. It is a bit of a faff to set up from memory and has to be done in the car but once up and running mine has been fine and frankly I would not be without it. great for friends too as they can use it and it proved helpful for a friend when the house internet was down and they had no data on their tablet they were able to sort some urgent on line matters sat in my car!

Same on my Aussie EQC. I'm pretty sure the dealer told me that feature was not available in Australia (before I bought it). What I didn't know is that its absence also takes out some "Hey Mercedes" features like the ability to dictate responses to SMS messages .. she responds with "I'm sorry, but online voice recognition is deactivated". I can still use voice commands to control in-car stuff where I guess she's listening out for pre-programmed keywords, but for totally free form voice like SMS replies, she needs the cloud for assistance.

As a result, I use AndroidAuto's voice recognition for anything not related to controlling the car. A long-press on the Voice button on the steering wheel will patch your speech through to your phone.

Do other car manufactures have it available or is it that the Australian gov has not licensed the providers to give the service?

Hi.
Thanks for your reply, well i received an email from MB , that this service is not available in Australia, and they don't know when it will be available. i am started using hey google on my phone now as its very convenient to use while you are driving.
you are right, absence of this features also compromised lots of "Hey Merc" features.
but anyway, i still love this car :)

I spoke to the dealer about it and we do not get it in Australia, plus not having the network stops live traffic from functioning. It's a shame that Mercedes Australia could not be bothered to supply the services. If you attempt to set up you will found only Vodafone Europe listed.

Cannot understand why Mercedes do not control all the diff country offshoots more so the offering is the same across the world but instead it seems local markets can distort the overall brand offering. seems bizzare to me and very annoying for us customers!

My Aussie EQC doesn't have the network connection, but I still get live traffic updates:

I think that gets delivered to the car via TMC (effectively an FM channel). Do you live in a particularly remote location? Maybe SUNA doesn't have coverage in your area?

I also get the Car-to-Car (Car-to-X?) warnings... every once in a while the Mercedes voice will announce "Caution: traffic hazard ahead". That works even when I'm not using the Mercedes satnav.

I m in Perth city, live traffic is greyd out,
I m not sure about "TMC" I normally listen to DAB radio. I understand that the Vodafone network does not have a wide cover area in Western Australia but not been available at all or not supplying an alternative network for users, is a Mercedes Australia shortcoming.

Hi,
As per my understanding, mb EQA Australia has 4g LTE inbuilt connection which can use for live traffic, & weather apps & of course merc.me call .but apart for these two features, rest are locked. And it's pity that we can't even connect our mobile internet hotspot to car. Just wondering how it will update Mbux software in car(over air update)? Or it has to be update thru dealership only ?
