EQB Charging Issues and Impractical Mercedes Connect Me App Support

I purchased a new 2022 EQB300 in early September 2022. Overall, I like the performance and drive of the car despite relatively poor range (240 miles max but often much lower). What I cannot stand is how awful and cumbersome charging issues are here in the U.S. Any new MB EV vehicle comes with a 2 years of free charging at any Electrify America (EA) for 30 min sessions. What no one told me was how unreliable the EA network is. There is a EA charging station near my home where there are 10 chargers but only 3 were working this past weekend and even a few days later it is no different as nothing has been serviced. Even when you have what looks like a functional charging station, there are technical glitches almost half the time which necessitate calling EA and being on hold for long periods of time. Recently, I have had problems with the Mercedes Me Connect app. Every time I try to charge, I am told that I don't have a Mercedes Me Charge "contract" and need to register through Mercedes Me although I have completed all of this "registration" at the time of vehicle purchase. I called the Mercedes Me Connect support line and was told that they operate on a 48 hour timeline - how is this practical for on a customer service level and charging issue as one needs to be able to charge to go to work etc etc?

You are not alone. I too bought the EQB the same time as you did. Dealer did not even give us a walkthrough of how to charge this car. Initial video we saw on YouTube said MBUX first before plugging the charger. The right way is to plug first before MBUX or Mercedes me app. In the beginning we thought everything was simple. Because we usually come to the charger, and it starts charging as soon as we plug it in. Not knowing that there was such thing as complimentary session, and we were not paying attention. Complimentary session was consistent for 3 weeks then boom... It suddenly asked for payment method. Now we get to use the Mercedes me app. It wasn't working. It was a learning experience, and this is what they didn't explain to any of us.

1. Unlike the EQS, EQB is not a plug and charge. EQS charges right away just by plugging the car. The charger knows the car by VIN and charge it automatically. EQB doesn't have that system.
2. MBUX and Mercedes Me app shows charger with 0/3, 1/3, 2/3, or 3/3. This represents the available charger with complimentary charging capability. I thought it was telling me the available chargers not in use in a specific area. So, if it says 1/3, only 1 of the 3 chargers can give you complimentary charging. It will display as charging point available with green lettering on the Mercedes me app or not grayed out on the MBUX. What the hell is this? If it says 1/3, only one charger will give you complimentary charging. If charger #1 is the only one on the Mercedes me and MBUX indicating availability, it means we can only charge using that one charger. If its occupied, we have to wait! So, when you open the Mercedes me app, you have to make sure you check the right charger then check on Electrify America app if that charger is in use before you go. What a headache.
3. As soon as you charge, the availability on the Mercedes me app will change. If it was 1/3 when you came in and used that only charger with complimentary capability, it will be taken out. Now its 0/3. And from what I have observed, Mercedes owners shares this account. An EQS owner charged on the charger that was giving complimentary charging. When he was done, the charger was off the list.

About 4 weeks ago, the chargers magically disappeared on the Mercedes Me app and the MBUX. No charges displayed; means we can't charge. Now we have to call EA to get the charger remotely started for us. Calling them takes minimum of 10 to 15 minutes. Then calling Mercedes Me support is kind of useless. They know its ongoing, but they can't do anything about it. We were advised to just register an account with EA and just call for reimbursement in batches. Yesterday I called EA to reimburse last month's charges.

Right now EA chargers are showing but it says no contract when you initiate the charge. So they are still working on it maybe. When I called this to Mercedes me support. They gave me a case number. I email them every week to inform that the issue is still ongoing. The last email pissed me off because they just basically said that the issue is known and being worked on, case is closed. So I asked case closed with issue unresolved? They replied we are in the dark here as well. Sorry. WHAT?!

If Mercedes want us to use EA for complimentary charging, why not have us register to EA directly like other makers does? Mercedes me customer service they can't because they have contract with ChargePoint. So, I guess the main issue here is the third-party payment that is ChargePoint.

I've thought about charging at home. It's easy but I won't get reimbursed for that.

It is not the network, It is EQB. Mercedess blaming the networks but it is a total Lie..... My EQB is at the service for over a month and they cant fix it, they are offering me compensation to take the car, but I refuse to do it. Mercedess should have done their home works before releasing and alos they are holding releasing 2023 Models. How ever I have EQS450 and have no charging issue.
Shame on Mercedess..

An update on My EQB, I had a call from service department that they just got an email from Mercedess Benz USA, that they started buying the car back but we have to take the card from Service and wait for the paper works go through..
Our EQB has never been able to charge via the me app or navigation system at any electrify america and have to call into EA every single time to remote charge. We've tried at over 15 different locations. Mercedes says it's EA issue and EA says it's a Mercedes issue. we've taken the vehicle in to check out an MB says there are is nothing wrong with the vehicle. Just got the car back yesterday and today i'm sitting at an EA while my wife is on the phone AGAIN with EA to remote start.

I know MB says that but you should go to dealer and asked them if they are saying nothing wrong, why they don't send their tech to come to charging station and show you....Mercedess is loosing their credibility on this car......Don't give up

I have been to 2 charger in area that I live and they wont pop up on the map or Mercedess Me,
we just got our EQB two weeks ago...the problems you posted are the same I am experiencing... Calling EA is the only way to get the free charge. Good SUV, but It is a shame MBZ does not fix this simple issue.

Yes that is the only way, but issue is sometimes you have to wait in average of 15 minutes to get to Customer service. I think soon Mercedess will have a heavy action lawsuit then they will wake up and smell the roses, I would not buy any more Mercedess till they fix the issue.....I owned 17 Mercedess so far, I don't recommend to buy EQB
EQS580 ‘22 chg card & connect me services NOT completing

I actually don’t know where to begin. The Mercedes connect is not finishing the activation for their 30 minutes of free charging it’s saying it’s registered but then it’s saying when I give the information the car is already defined and noting an error in the process…. but it’s asking me to define it my sales person and I were on with MERCEDES Me Connect support yesterday several times to NO success, I am also an owner of a Tesla model X at well everyone complains about the Tesla. I have to tell you the programming of it and computer skills are Way Beyond what MB is OFFERING. To put it simply well I’ve only had the EQ 580 for a few days. The car seems to be magnificent and Acceleration a bit slower than a Tesla. However, my complaints about the Tesla, were more in this category it seems Mercedes knows how to make a car but not how to coordinate the computer info necessary to make it a truly SMART E vehicle!!
I’m truly surprised that Mercedes put out an imperfect or incomplete product in this category

Any suggestions on Mercedes me getting to accept the complementary 30 minute charge card would be appreciated. We do have a Tesla charger at home that I have purchased an adapter for I used it once and it seems to work well but we are going on a trip and I want that ability to top it off if necessary till I get to my destination.

Thanx in Advance for any ideas, support or advise

I bought a EQB in October 2022 and have never been able to use the complimentary charge at EA stations. I have called Mercedes Me support and all they have done is open tickets. No response in 4 months. However I have charged at the fast chargers by paying the charges through the Chargepoint app and credit card

You should file a complaint with Better Business Bearue and take the card back to dealer you bought, you paid for a service that you cant use and that is what Mercedess fault, but Mercedess trying to be smart A, and ignore everyone, they are busying my car back but they will take their time, I gave them last notice if they dont but it back by next week I will just hire an attorney and they will end up for it, it is not fair to consumer.....I owned 17 Mercedess with no issue EQB has a problem and I will return it to Mercedess, and my next car will be different brand. Good Luck

Can you please contact me at [email protected] I happened the exact same situation that you had mentioned I would like to file for complaint, but do not know where to go. If I can join the complaint him about the EQB greatly appreciate🙌🏼
Charging EQB is disaster, our EQB has been at Service few times, and Mercedess Service claiming nothing wrong with it, Mercedess tried to get to $60 K car market competing with Id.4, Muche, and Ionique but really screwed up, I had owned 17 Mercedess and this will be my last, everything about Mercedess is going down the hill, Me Connect is a joke........ Good Luck with your EQB
Thousands of EQA's, EQC's, EQB's etc are charging daily all over the planet with no issues. This seems to be more like a United-States-of-crappy-infrastructure only problem. I have driven long trips in Norway and Sweden using more than 10 different providers with 0 problems.
