EQB300 issue with setting charging current

The current limit setting in the EQA/B/C is only every consulted when using the "nonna cable". I'm not entirely sure, but I think you North Americans might call that a L1 charger - the one you plug into an ordinary outlet when you're visiting your nonna. It attempts to indicate that with the text "limit for charging at mains sockets".

Once plugged into an EVSE it'll draw whatever current the EVSE says it may draw. Here's my EQC set to a nonna cable limit of 8A, but clearly drawing 32A (charging at 7.3kW) because it's plugged into the EVSE, not the nonna cable:

The official solution to achieve your goals is for the EVSE installer to set the dipswitches inside the EVSE to reflect the upstream current limits. That's much safer as it doesn't rely on end user setting things correctly to stay within current limits. Here are the options for my EVSE:

Mine is set to 'A' because it's wired to a 32A circuit. In your situation, you'd set it to '5' and you'd be good to go.

It almost seems like an oversight that Webasto hardcoded theirs to 32A, but they've covered themselves with this instruction:

Your best way forward at this stage may be to run a 40A circuit to it. If that's not possible, you might need to swap it for an EVSE that lets you set the maximum current.
