Hi all,

I'm the owner of a EQS 580 (incredible car) with lots of options.
However, I seem to be missing some options that I do see appearing here and there in Youtube videos.

Roaring pulse sound experience
Digital light animation projection

Both are part of the individualization package, but not (yet) available in my car.

When I open the Mercedes Store I see the following:

The Mercedes Me expert from my garage indicates that these options are not (yet) available in Belgium, but I have the feeling that this information is incorrect.
The Mercedes Me helpdesk refers me again to the Mercedes garage.

Are there any EQS owners here who are also missing these 2 options? Or who happen to have these options.
I can't imagine that the roaring pulse sound experience cannot be activated on my car because it lacks certain 'hardware'.

I understand roaring pulse requires Burmester surround sound system hardware. And Digital Light possibly requires dedicated hardware in the headlights too. Both sets of hardware are part of current 580 Belgium builds so I assume they were listed in a build sheet given to you by dealer, but you could verify with dealer is the problem genuinely a hardware problem with your car or just software update needed. I would try and get the answer in writing if possible. By the way some other regions near you got the software update for those features nearly a year ago. One thing holding back the Digital Light and similar hardware from other brands could be legal reasons, such as in America.

But the Sound Experience should work.They asked me to bring in the car so they can do a firmware update of all the computer components in the car. I will update this post when this happened.

Is the same for UK market Peter. Again MB advertising functionality that is then not made available to the customer. In the case of the light projection function.

It's good news that the firmware update can improve the sound function for you. But again it's dreadful car prep before making available to the customer. And at such a cost you would imagine a little more attention to detail.

I can cut some amount of slack for the car being so ultra new (some adjustments and learning curve etc) but the expectation setting and then failure to include much of the functionality forms a trend.

Keep us posted with your experiences with the product and service, good or bad.

You could also ask if DIGITAL LIGHT will work when you travel to countries where legal. I am not sure but expect DIGITAL LIGHT on cars traveling from those legal countries disables itself automatically when enters Belgium. Just as when enter UK traveling from Belgium, the EQS should change headlight function automatically to be legal for driving on the left instead of the right in Belgium.

Intriguing if Belgium government would forbid cars bought there from being software-equipped to use features abroad that are legal when travel abroad. If they don't forbid but the function does not work for you in legal countries, then there should be a software update to correct that, as per Mkultra40 expectation

I think I have the digital lights as well (not tested in the dark yet), because the "rain" projection is working when closing the car. For you info: I'm in Belgium as well, so it IS available in Belgium.

I do have another problem (in fact two):

• The dashcam was auto-starting when I received the car, but now it isn't anymore, any ideas anyone?
• And I'm trying to find how you can auto-login with your (default) profile, think it is not possible?

Good to know at least some of the DIGITAL LIGHT functionality is available - hopefully more when travel abroad or maybe your tests can reveal it all works in Belgium?!

I expect you can associate a SmartKey with your user profile. Then if you unlock the vehicle with the SmartKey, the light, mirror and seat settings for your user profile are pre-activated. To setup search for Protect Content menu (I think it's in user settings somewhere), then select SmartKey Recognition. Have the SmartKey ready and follow the setup assistant's prompts. The user profile is then linked to the key.

For dashcam go to settings - apps- dashcam - select Loop Recording instead of Individual Recording. Also check if any other settings are to preference. If still not automatically recording another possibility is it realizes it is in a country where this automatic start is illegal? In which you could setup a shortcut to start recording but you would still need to do this everytime you start car (I think UK and USA have to do this recently as examples) but best double-check if this is really necessary with Mercedes

thanks for the suggestions.

I don't have any menu to associate the smartly with the user profile. However I noticed that if I wait about 10 seconds after starting the car, the MBUX is automatically choosing my profile. That is ok for me.

However, the dashboard cam is an issue. I don't have the menu that I see in different screenshots here in this forum. I can choose for Loop Recording and for Individual Recording (and can start both from within the menu), however, after stopping/starting the car, I have to manually activate the dashcam again and again. This is defeating the purpose of a dashcam, I forget often to start it manually.

And I'm sure that it was correctly working on the day I received the car. So it's a software bug or it has been blocked for use in Belgium. Can someone else from Belgium confirm that your dashcam is auto-starting or not? I'll check with the dealer the coming days.

What I noticed as well after a couple of days usage: Stoplight cam is not always working. Sometimes it is showing the stoplights on the main screen, sometimes not (not talking about the intelligent stoplights, I don't think we have a lot of them here in Belgium).

On the other hand, very happy at this moment with the efficiency. Average around 17KWh/100km (rather defensive driving style), meaning a reach of somewhere between 500 and 550km (and this for the smaller battery in the 350). Nice!

Many Mercedes have ability for the Smartkey association with a user profile including EQS so if you preferred faster profile selection you could search for Protect Content unless this feature is not available in all EQS models which would be unexpected. Here is excerpt from an online EQS owner manual-

• I have the "protect content" in the configuration menu's, but I do not have the "Smartkey Recognition" menu. However it's not a big problem anymore, since the profile is auto-selected after 10 or 20 seconds.
• Dashcam: According to the GDRP link you provided, it seems not to be a legal issue in Belgium, hence the auto-start of the dashcam should work. I'll take it up with my dealer.

In meantime I linked the two-finger gesture to start the dashcam, not great, but better than nothing

Dashcam needs to be started everytime manually. It has to do with legal issues on privacy... Had same problem on my EQS450+
Auto Login never seen that feature. the EQS remembers the last user and you can set face recognition (or finger) perhaps it goes automatically like that...

Mercedes EQS already has biometric recogition hardware built-in so hopefully software can use that to realize that the recorder was selected to be started automatically before by the person in the driver's seat, if that is what is needed

I'm 99% sure that the auto-start of the dashcam was working on the very first day I received the car. Maybe, based on geolocation, it was disabled automatically (at least for Belgium).
What is the difference, enabling it automatically or manually, the recording is there nonetheless, stupid privacy regulations :-(

I have the same issue with the software. My wife and I both have our own key and we want our profile settings stored in our key, but I don't see that option. Besides the fact that it is a very nice car and that it drives fantastic I find the software very buggy, not Mercedes like. That is something I don't understand, Mercedes should have made the software great as well...too bad.

The key profiles is not working on Mercedes since some years even it's in the manuals.

Full function of Digital Light is not due to leagal matters in the EU. I had the same problem with lack of functions. First they stated that it was due to regulations but after a while it came up that they had not installed hardware that support all functions on the first series of EQS. So we can never get animation and warnings on our cars. Most confusing is that Mercedes changed the content of PAX and keept the name.

I'm having a fight with Mercedes in Sweden about this as I see it as false advertising as the dealer did not tell that the PAX I got is not the same content as PAX in later version.
