EQS Improvement Suggestions Thread - What Would You Suggest MB To Change?

Morning all. Well a month or two in now and overall I have to confess to being impressed and pleased at the decision.

That said, it also allows a little time to see things that could have been done better and I thought why don't we jot down a running list of improvement ideas. Who know maybe MB actually read this stuff and might just take some of it on board.

Anyway my starter for 10 .....

Slide In (integrated) Charger Flap A-La Tesla - The fols out flap cheapens the deal for me. That 2.0 Cd sleek frame is spoiled by an ICE style access flap same as you might see on a 1980's Honda Civic.

Trunk Charger Cable Storage Lid - BMW do a dampened open and close mechanism whereas the MB one is clunk and drop open and close. For maybe £3.00 more it could be more elevated. Small? Yes but again to enhance the experience

Key Stored Profile to adjust Car Settings - PITA for me getting in after the wife when the seat and wheel settings are for a smaller person. Surely it must be relatively easy that the car adjusts position based on the key and key holder? BMW do that and it's very nice. That one hacks me off.

Illuminated Seat Belt Receptacle - I saw on the early demo cars that there was a halo ring showing where to plug in the belt. It got good reviews and comments but never made it to my model. Shame, would be nice.

Position of Light Dial - I have a habit of knocking the dial with my leg (maybe due to the wife's seat position mentioned above that we cannot adjust via the key :) ) .... you only get to know about it when someone flashes you on the road. Maybe it could adjusted or recessed a little

Don't know if any of you share those opinions or have your own improvement suggestions but I think it would be good to jot these down as they occur. Certainly I'd be interested in any improvements you see on your car and experience.

Separate windshield wiper controls from turn signal. Wipers are frequently unintentionally activated when using the turn signal stalk.

Seems like most (all?) manufacturers have been doing this for decades. More and more junk on the "sticks". I found it annoying when they started this and never really got comfortable with it. I still accidentally turn on wipers when I do not intend to or put on high beams when I do not want to, etc.

Also is it me or are the front doors mad heavy to open on a slight slope? I'm probably at the more robust end of the spectrum but have to say, those front lumps are not the easiest action to open and close from the seated position.

Anyone know if they are adjustable at all? Think mine are on Spinal Tap level 11 if they are.
My number one - allowing us to manually raise the air suspension (which I can do on a 2020 E450 convertible). My front end hits bottom at the end of my driveway.

after just 3 days.. more than a few annoying things to chg! i agree about setting for seats being programmed to key as b4. The comp choices come nowhere close to those of the Tesla X that being said, the luxury and comfort of the 580 fire exceeds, the X! The Tesla has the ability to sense. The car is pulling up to the garage, and it opens with an X number of feet no buttons necessary 1 improvement I suggest. Turning the car off in my garage and having to lock it to make sure it’s completely off and not accessible. i.e., if it’s on the street because the handles are out is absurd it should turn off inside the car without extra actions needed. Also Ambient kites should go off when doors close Only 2 delay choices offered. i’m also finding the ability to use a Mercedes an CarPlay most cumbersome. For instance, I can’t get Spotify easily. I don’t have any computer connectivity within the car. This seems also absurd and making a phone call. I just do it through my hey MERCEDES to my phone directly. I am really avoiding CarPlay. I find it not useful. And I am a big fan of Apple, and all that it does however, in this car NOT!!
What is so hard about having a backgammon game and solitaire which is games 101 as far as i’m concerned … the two that are offered I’ve never heard of! as I said, this was just after a few days of holding the car I hope I don’t thought anymore. I truly love driving it, but I find its computer skills are way lacking.

I think that regenerative braking should be a software choice that stays in your profile, one should not have to get in the car. Every time I put buttons up lovers to make it work at seems like crazy mau5trap thought process.

I drove a Tesla for a month before getting my EQS, here are a few cool things Telsa does that Mercedes should copy. 1) DOG MODE--you can put the AC into DOG mode if you leave your dog in the car. The screen displays DOG mode so people know your dog is safe. 2) When your sitting at a light and it turns green the Tesla beeps to tell you to put down your phone and drive. Very cool feature. 3) When you unlock the Tesla it automatically starts navigation to the destination it assumes you are going. Its correct most of the time and it makes the car seem more intelligent. If its cold outside it turns on the heat and the seat heater right away.
Question...I got free Electrify America charging with my EQS. Turns out most of Electrify America chargers are broken and the one I finally got to use was rated at 150kW but only delivered 41kW. Is this your experience?
My number one concern is the lack of manual height adjustment for the air suspension system. The front end scrapes on the driveway. Seems like it would be a software fix.

Moaned about it more than few times but having just seen that the BMW i7 has comfort powered doors then I'm going to add this again.

The excuse given to me at order time was that the motors and cabling could not be obtained because of the Ukraine crisis. Seems BMW get their parts from a different shop!

And having used the car a good deal now, the doors are damned heavy and really could benefit from a powered comfort option for sure. Especially on a slight upward slope.

Even as a payable option this would be welcome.

Also one year on from release, you still cannot order the previously listed 22kw AC charger port, nor order the much promoted MB 22kw wall charger.

Not so interesting to the US market I understand but there are plenty of folks in Europe and UK who are. Same excuse given that 'cables' cannot be got from a plant in Ukraine.

These sort of oversites strike me as somewhat bordering on the ridiculous.

The user profile is either selected by fingerprint or face recognition. I think this is more convenient than the key fob. If you have more than two drivers.

But not if the one is 5;3" and the other 6'2" .... sure once you in the facial and fingerprint and pin are all good but getting in without the seat and wheel being in the larger persons position is not a great experience. Car should be ready for you when the door opens. It's quite a problem depending on size. If you of similar size then the problem does not present itself so much.
This could be solved with the easy entry option, which retracts the steering column and move the driver seat back.

It’s beyond me why MB has not implemented many of these software features in a FLAGSHIP VEHICLE.

Good call Jeggo. I was aware of this but have been too lazy to date to look into it. Guess what I'm doing this afternoon? Thanks for the prompt. Let you know how I get on.

That said I still think the fob based setting aka BMW style would be a minimal cost / reasonable benefit (experience wise) benefit. You would imagine it to be a software function primarily.

Did you preheat the battery to an optimum temperature before starting the charging session? If you press the "EQ" button it will display the maximum kW charge that can be accepted at that time. To preheat the battery you need to select an EA destination in the GPS about 20 minutes or so before you start charging. This morning I drove a few miles to a charging station from a hotel with temperatures around 28F. That was only long enough to get up to 80 kW. Yesterday at the same charger when I allowed more time I got a rate of 135 kW.

I need to raise the suspension every day when I arrive at work to get over a ridge into my car park. On my old S500 coupe there was a physical button to do so. On my EQS you can do the same but it is a virtual button. I have set my raising up to work on GPS so that everytime I go back to a place that needs it the button pops onto the screen

If you go to Vehicle / Settings you can then turn on "GPS-based raising"

Then if you press the button with the picture of the car and then choose functions one of the options is "Raise vehicle level"

Then if you have turned on GPS based raising it will just bring the button up automatically ever time you get to that spot.

It works perfectly in my car

(Apologies if I haven't got the terms exactly correct but I am doing this from memory!)

Is useful stuff Nick, a few folks have this issue including us. Again you would think this could be made a SW mod and easy access option with minimal cost/time. But until then it's a good solution for sure.
