ordered my EQC Premium with Parking package/parking assist on 10/12/2020 and received it on 06/02/2021

upon receiving the auto parking was not working, took the car back to Mercedes Epsom and was told it has been disabled by Mercedes, it has the button to auto park , but does not work. I was told to live with it !

Can Mercedes do this? Has anyone encountered this problem? Can someone Please advise what I can do ?

Word of warning ... When you hand in your car for whatever reason, ensure they do not switch off this option.

Welcome @Fred1234 and congrats on your EQC!
Did they tell you why it was disabled? Haven't heard of this from other EQC owners but overall it isn't known to be a good example of what Mercedes is capable of.

Welcome to the forum @Fred1234. That doesn't sound right that should be an available feature for you. I guess Mercedes is able to do it but they shouldn't just randomly do it to people. If your dealer isn't helping you go to another dealer to see or reach out to Mercedes directly.

The following was written to me why it has been disabled. The physical buttons are all available in the car , they simply been disabled.

“Please note that this change in specification has been brought in by Daimler AG to comply with EU Directive UN R79 EU6 regulations and autonomus driving in line with govournment legislations.”

Hi Fred, I have encountered the same problem. I have been trying unsuccessfully to get my Park Assist working since I took delivery of my brand new EQC AMG in late December 2020. I finally got fed up and sent it to my local Merc dealer for to check it under warranty. They told me the same as you and again said more or less that it was a “reduced scope” .... whatever that means. Apparently the code which came up was “8B8”. Needless to say I was not at all satisfied with the explanation and I will not be leaving it at that. I’ve raised it now directly with Mercedes Benz who have told me firstly they were surprised as when they looked at my car specs online it showed that this feature should be available. I'm still waiting for them to get back to me with (hopefully) a solution. I’ve also raised it with the broker who sold me the brand new car. I checked back in the specifications of the AMG line and it shows clearly that park assist should be on this car. All my previous Mercs have had this Park Assist function so you can imagine my shock and horror to find out that such a simple automatic parking function was not available on a £70,000 plus car. I’m simply not going to let this one go. Michael

Hi Michael, I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I had taken the same approach and have refused to let this go.

I'd recommend raising this with the retail CEO for the UK, who has assigned someone to look into this as my initial inquiry with Mercedes Benz was brushed off. Her email address is :;

[email protected] -

the more people raising it directly to her will hopefully result in some action.

I have also had an update from the ombudsman that they've taken the case on, but any outcome of investigation will take 6 months.

Please keep me updated and I will do the same.

Best of luck!

Fred

Just received a mail from Mercedes , offering meagre amount of £60
It’s an insult!

In response to your email addressed to Angela Shepherd, I would like to acknowledge receipt.

Please be advised that I have been asked to continue to handle this matter as I manage any escalated complaints on behalf of our Board of Director’s and CEO office, this also means that your complaint has been escalated to the highest operational point in UK and the next point of escalation would be The Motor Ombudsman.

I am sorry to learn that you remain dissatisfied however as I and my colleagues at the CAC have previously explained, the feature has been disabled due to legal reasons.

In bringing this matter to a close, I am happy to reimburse you for the cost of the feature - £60.00 therefore, please confirm your written acceptance by return email; including your bank account details (account number, sort code, name on account) upon receipt of your written acceptance I will apply the credit to your account.

Alternatively you may seek advice with a CTSI Certified Alternative Dispute Resolution provider, including The Motor Ombudsman who may be able to resolve your complaint in appropriate circumstances. Details can be found at www.themotorombudsman.org, or alternatively their telephone number is 0345 241 3008 selecting option 1.

Any questions, please let me know.

Fred, that does seem a derisory amount for such a major functional deficit in the car's capability. The automatic Parktronic Parlk Assist capability was in my own case a major factor in the selection of the vehicle. In my two previous Maercedes cars both my wife and I used it religiously for parking in an urban environment. We now find ourselves at a loss as to why Mercedes-Benz failed to point out at any time why this feature has been disabled or removed from our EQC. Needless to say this has taken the shine off what was a large investment for us. Michael

Wow only £60?? Are you going to reach out to the Motor Ombudsman?

This is crazy as I have the exact same issue. I’ve had it back at Colindale Mercedes and they could not suss out the problem and basically said your car needs to be sent away to a specialist for more diagnostics. I couldn’t be bothered snd just wanted my car back. For a £70k+ car this is a joke. How can some have it work and some not? Surely it’s all or none?

I have just sent her this email;

Hi Angela,

I trust you are well.

I am writing this email to frankly complain about my experience since taking delivery of my brand new Mercedes EQC Premium Plus.

I took delivery of the car back in November and have not been able to use the Park Assist feature.

My sister and cousin have also got brand new 2020 Mercedes models (CLA) which also have this feature that works when the park assist button is pressed (I have been in the car whilst in activation).

In light of this I watched videos of park assist being used on the vehicle (EQC) on YouTube and other social media sites as I thought maybe I was not correctly activating this feature (which is one of the reasons I purchased the car) however I could not see anything wrong with what I was doing so assumed the car had a fault.

I called the supplying dealership who confirmed the car does have this feature and to book the car in with my local dealership for investigation work to see what the issue was.

After waiting a number of days the car was taken to Mercedes Colindale and left for a whole day only to be told the car must be taken to a specialist centre based in Milton Keynes for further investigation work as the engineers could not conclude why this feature was not working on the car.

I am an extremely busy person and do not have the time or capacity to be left without a car for however long this investigation work would take so have not gone any further with the issue.

I recently joined a Mercedes forum where I quickly discovered I am not the only person who is facing the same issue with a vehicle which costs over £70,000.00 which is simply unacceptable.

I want something done as I want this feature to be switched back onto my vehicle as I have paid for it and need it to assist with parking, especially as I am based in London with narrow car parking spaces etc.

I do not want £60.00 in compensation which was previously offered to another member on the forum I am a member of which in all due respect is quite frankly a joke.

I have some questions I would also like answered;

  • Why is this feature turned off?
  • Why do other new model cars have this working? (my sister and cousins 2020 CLA)
  • Why do the majority of your technical staff have no idea this is even happening and fail to diagnose the park assist has been intentionally switched off?

I look forward to hearing a positive response from yourself with a resolution to this very frustrating issue.

Thank you for sharing your email to Angela. I hope the weight of noise she receives will help this issue gain more focus.

I am still going back and forth with the priority customer assistance manager that Angela has asked to look into this and I have asked for detail as to how they have calculated the £60 as the cost of park assist.

I will keep you all updated, please do the same.

Just had a look around the french forums and it seems to be a problem here too and not just EQC. Shall contact my dealer and see what he has to say del of my car is due in July. Seems it is not an EU regulation but worldwide regulations for autonomous driving cars. What is not clear is what the actual problem is and what would be needed to resolve it ie hardware or software or
both.
