I recently had my EQC 400 serviced, at 15,000 miles, at the local MB dealer...I did report an intermittent squeak on the brakes.
On inspection, the engineer sent me a video showing corrosion of the drums "due to the way the car brakes"..and they want to charge me £1200 for a full new set of drums !!
In my mind, this is either a design or manufacturing fault, otherwise they are classing the drums as a consumable that you need to allow £100 per month to replace...has anyone else had such experience ?

Did you mean to say rotors instead of drums? If the dealer actually said drums, I would find another dealer. I would ask to see the measurements of the rotor thickness, the minimum thickness allowed, and the thickness of new rotors.

As a point of reference, I checked the thickness of my rear EQS SUV rear rotors when I did a tire rotation at 6000 miles and they were just under 22mm. The minimum thickness stamped into the rotor casting is 19.4mm. I did not bother to check the fronts.

Curious to know if the dealer also included new pads in the repair estimate.

As pointed out the EQC has disc brakes all round as they are known here in europe or rotors in the states.
There is a lot of discussion on other BEV forums about EV’s brakes rusting and needing replacement not through use but rather from the lack of use because of regen braking.
So it would be useful to know if the disc need replacing due solely to rust or if it is wear issue.
How do you drive the car ie do you use heavy regen all the time Or do you use dauto or a combination?
So far at 17,000km my discs look quite normal and there is dust on the wheels, not quite as much as with my previous e class but clearly the friction brakes operate.
I did find with a c class it needed new rear pads with a mileage under 35,000km due I think to my using cruise control a lot, I changed to the speed limiter with the e class and that had no brake pad replacements nor indeed tyres whereas the c class also wore it’s tyres more quickly.
Where you live may also affect the discs if you are in a coastal location.
A painfully expensive repair!

It’s highly unlikely that brake discs would need replacement at 15000 miles, if they have rust marks or slight pitting they can be made as good as new by skimming. Unfortunately for the dealer, this is a cheap and quick repair (less than 10mins per disc) so doesn’t result in the huge profits from fitting unnecessary parts.

I have 3 years / 30,000km done without this issue. I check the appearance of the discs regularly for rust.

A previous hybrid car I had also used lots of regen and once after driving through salted roads I let the car sit without using for a fortnight. I later needed to replace brake parts due to terrible rust from that so I now always wash car after driving on salted roads, not to say that is your issue but just something I noticed before and tallies with Parkwood talking about a possible issue of being in salty air near the coast. It was a Japanese brand and they use water to make the roads safe instead of salt I understand in that country.

Another thing I do is to brake harshly from time to time to help remove surface rust from the brakes especually after driving in rain. Likely braking in neutral gear has a similar effect

I have become so sensitive to this issue that I subjectively think I can hear/feel uneven brakes from rust. It is especially noticeable as a sound after washing car, leaving car overnight and then starting to drive off the following morning or maybe that is some sticking issue from the wash wax , not sure

I have seen this phenomenon mentioned on other forums, so every day I drive the car, I find a stretch where there is no traffic and do a hard stop from about 50 mph.
