Software Update v 12v battery.

I recently had a software upgrade notice on my Mbux screen as well as the iPhone app.

Tried every which way to do the upgrade and nothing worked. Went through the owners manual as well as online forums still could not get the car to update over the air or meet the “technical conditions”!!!

For a $115K EV, I said screw it and went to the Benz dealer. Turns out, software upgrades “over the air” will only take place when there’s a proper charge on the 12V battery. Since I only drive my EQE on the weekends, the 12V battery was below charge so the software update would not take place as the 12V battery only charges when driving.

PS: The 12V battery is located under the front hood near the in the rear near the front passenger.

Same problem with the latest consumer over the air software update that wont install because of insufficient battery power in my 2023 EQE-SUV 350. Although my 2023 Tesla is my everyday ride, there is no way that my EQE-SUV could have an undercharged 12 volt battery. And no way the EQE-SUV pre safe seat belt should tighten up to save my life when the car is standing still in a parking lot with no imminent threat, or all the auxiliary driving functions become inoperative for no reason, I am told to take the car to the dealer, but after shutting the car down for 20 minutes all is back to normal and has stayed that way for 6 months. And there's no accounting when on enhanced cruise control the car loses track of road markings and consequently loses the auto-steer. And from what I read I've got a relatively trouble free EQE-SUV. It rides like the several E and S class cars I have owned in the past, is as well appointed, but it's nuisance level makes me wonder if it's really a Mercedes.

I had the same issue. I tried to drive car for an hour and also tried charging high voltage battery overnight. Neither one would get the battery back to fully charged. I took to dealer and they identified my battery was failing and replaced it under warranty. They kept car overnight and OTA update was successful.

There is apparently an error message that should have come on if the 12 Volt battery has insufficient charge according to the service manager at my MB dealer. As one of the error messages that has never appeared (yet), he didn't think it was the 12 volt battery that was at fault. They will pick up the car next week and hopefully fix the problem. Of course, I have no idea what the software update for charging will do for the car, but if it's anything like past updates, it's bound to improve something in software that needs a lot of improvement.

They now want to change the lithium ion 12V battery!
I'm pretty sure that's an AGM lead acid battery - at least it was in the earlier models.

Is it just me or is it crazy that when you plug the car in it does not charge the 12 V battery just the main high voltage battery…CRAZY!!
Whenever you charge the high voltage battery it also charges the 12V battery. In fact, a long slow overnight charge of the high voltage battery is the best way to charge the 12V battery.

Indeed a phantom software upgrade affecting charging! Having the same "not enough power message" and checking answers on this forum I found conflicting suggestions for a further course of action. Posted comments: 1. my dealer forced the update, 2. my dealer said Mercedes withdrew the update to revise it and would allow it to be installed in the future 3.they charged my 12 Volt battery and the update installed and then called me to replace the battery. So I brought my EQE-SUV in to the dealership. A technician put in 3 hours trying to figure out why the update wouldn't install, I was told "I have enough power" and to keep trying, and wait for the other error message that appears every so often stating something like the update is not yet available and will be available later so check back later to see if it becomes available.

Thank you! I went to get coffee (1.5 miles). Before the short trip the car said the update would occur at the end of the trip. Didn’t happen. I’ve had low 12v messages before - resolved after long drive. Going on a Fall foliage drive this week. Hopefully software will download after that.

Good intel! My dealer said I need a new 12v battery to do the upgrade! Odd. Less than 10k miles on the car. They said the battery comes from the fatherland so it will be 7-10 day to get here. More soon when the battery comes in.

Here is my two penny worth on the OTA issue.
The MBUX 2.6.1 and the lane change assist have both needed dealer attention to work and now I supposedly have another charging one which I have. To take the car to the dealer for. This is the Achilles heel of the EQ range some cars simply do not deal with OTA (mine is a Dec 23 registration built around Sept I think).
All navigation and LTE module OTA load seamlessly no issues at all.
Now my dealership is totally on the ball and very professional. They advise me that when they do software upgrades on the car it is hooked up to the Mercedes servers and like Apple it will be queued and get the data accordingly…..so sometimes it is hooked up all day and overnight! They never ever book the car in for same day service when it is software related.
Re the 12v issue when ours was being updated to 2.6.1 we were getting messages about the condition if the 12v including going from low to critical overnight whilst the garage was closed and all of us in France were asleep the car was showing as in the workshop windows open always meaning it is hooked up to the mother ship and being actually looked at or worked on ……then come the morning everything was ok. Those messages have all come from the car systems as it was having brain surgery…..and whilst it was actually hooked up to a 12v supply! The garage confirm it is always hooked up in this way as it needs the 12v supply.
We lost the app SOH report for the 12v at one point but it has been back for weeks now….
There seems to be some issue with the software just not being able to load because it thinks the 12v cannot deal with it ….now there are 100’s of controllers in the cars which also makes the situation more complicated as well, far more than in the average car and certainly a lot more than in Tesla.
For what it is worth my view is the issues are all software glitches of the same awful rubbish one has to put up with windows maybe because the software has simply been developed and added onto older systems as windows has done over the years leading to a bloated and unstable environment. I am no software professional and could be talking rubbish but my experience with the EQE has felt more and more like my experience with windows which I jettisoned a few years back and moved to Apple where everything just works.
So if an OTA will not load expect a dealer visit to resolve it, and do not be surprised with odd error messages.
I still consider the EQE SUV the absolute best car I have ever owned but it has been let down by software and I am hoping the new MB.0S will rid Mercedes of the problems they have had only disappointment Microsoft are involved shame it was not Apple in my view.

I suspect it is measuring "Battery Health" as opposed to voltage. So even if the battery has full-charge and full voltage, its "health" may be degraded over time.

Think of it like a smartphone. A phone can be fully charged (100% battery icon) but still have poor health, meaning its overall battery performance has degraded and it can't hold a charge as long as it used to. A healthy battery, on the other hand, will hold a full charge for a longer period and deliver consistent power, even when aged.
