Some advice re dash inserts

I am possibly going to order an EQE SUV sight unseen not a usual position for me.

I have test driven an EQE with the tilleul insert which did not totally appeal. I am looking at the blue electric line here in France do not like the nose much would prefer the AMG but prefer the rear to the AMG with the faux exhaust bits🙄 but it has the advantage of being able to option artico comfort seats which I prefer as I found the nappa leather on my eclass scratched far too easily so I was always worrying when passengers got in with handbag buckles etc etc. also 19inch wheels which I prefer as comfort is everything for me.

Has anyone got either of the attached and can they advise are they both reflective or matte and are the stars illuminated in anyway.

I'm not much help but I really like #1. I always spec that on the configurator. We have the brown wood with the MB stars and it has a matte finish.

I think I read somewhere that the little stars are illuminated.
How about considering the insert pictured below? It is a bit reflective, though...

They may be illuminated in this example but our's are not in the brown wood.

9,000 euro option here! Though standard in U.K. high spec AMG line but the price reflects its inclusion.
to be honest I am not sure about it my little screen in the EQC attracts enough dirt and fingerprints to annoy me and I noted the centre screen in the EQE was not brilliant in that way.
I do think the screen in the new e class looks much better and more attractive overall though and that could take my fancy but alas we are were we are the big monster and a 9000 hole in the budget😆

Yes your option is the other one I am considering but given I prefer black upholstery it does not look as balanced as it does in your car with the cream interior. The above examples are in the same black grey range that blend well with our Northern European often black grey weather with its black grey skies 🤣

Agreed. The brown would look odd with black or gray interior. I really like the waves. It's also an option on the EQS so maybe you can find one at a dealer to see in-person?

In France sadly no. Mercedes are high end purchases and the majority sold are GLC level and below. The EQS SUV is way way not mainstream you would always look to Paris and probably Mercedes France demos to get to see one. I cannot even see an EQE SUV at the moment. my dealer does have one on order build date June and should arrive in the summer which could mean Sept given the slowdown in everything here late July August due to our famous summer holidays
In fact in 18mths I have never seen another EQC in the wild…….and we were the first to buy an all electric BEV at our dealers though when we were there last week they had an EQA ready to be handed over that afternoon.

My comment was not serious. It was just a joke ;-)
The price of that "insert" is not much different here, but I ordered it anyway. I try not to think about it, as there's no sane justification for it...

The 1st one is reflective, it's called Anthracite 3D relief-optic.
Looks pretty nice actually, but not illuminated and completely dark at night.
You can see it in this video:

The second one is matte, the stars are illuminated and change color with ambient light.
Do note that as pointed out earlier, only the black one with stars are illuminated. There is also a brown one with stars, and that one is not illuminated.

I think it looks really nice at night, but during the day time, it sort of looks a bit plasticky, which I don't like.
So I am also a bit undecided - want a day time look or go for a night time look?

Wow... I didn't realize the 3D arthracite wasn't matte. The configurator would lead you to believe that it's matte.

That is so helpful really I appreciate the time taken to respond thanks. Now I shall debate and debate but frankly the shiny surface really puts me off the anthracite might revert to the linden wood🤔which did not impress me in the EQE I test drove but might just be the easiest to live with.

Silly me had an irony bypass today 😉 if it pleases you and you can indulge why not enjoy.

Unless you are tall enough that the base panel instrument cluster cannot be seen due to the steering wheel rim.

Ok - maybe there's one sane reason to go for the HyperScreen ;-)
Certainly worth testing both configurations, if you have the luxury of doing so.
If on a budget that simply will not allow for a HyperScreen, I would take a close look at whether the heads-up display option could be a workaround.
The only insert that seems to be non glossy, is the wood insert.

I did. It's not. ;)

Watch the first video in post #10 above starting around 14 minutes. He probably has his camera attached to his glasses. I suspect I may be a bit taller, as I had even more blockage, but you can see the effect on the outer portions of the dials. Very annoying.

I got mine with the yacht striped wood and absolutely love it!
This is the wood I have. Love it. I did test drive EQS SUV with the full dash screen, although really cool it was to reflective for me. For me the wood breaks it up nicely without the screen being intrusive.

Some automotive linguistic trivia almost on this topic for anyone interested (or not, please just skip!). When cars were being newly created and early in evolution in the beginning of the last century, the dashboard was the panel that bent up from the floor, and later on became the panel to separate the engine compartment from the passenger compartment. This is the vertical panel below the cowl at the base of the windshield on modern cars. Over time, other words were also used for this part, such as the "firewall". But, the upward curve was made famous by Ransom E. Olds (yes, the Oldsmobile creator).

With more development, instruments were added and attached to the dashboard and grew into what became the full "instrument panel". Thus, the instrument panel (IP) is attached to the dashboard, but they are actually two different parts. If you can actually see the dashboard, a lot of disassembly has happened to your car's instrument panel!

Given the preference for shorthand, dashboard deteriorated into "dash", sharing the name with a punctuation mark! "IP" is actually even shorter for the sake of brevity. If you are interested and somehow rewarded or comforted by technical accuracy, the question of the thread is the appearance of the IP!

Back to our regularly scheduled programming...:)
