I had a “Transmission Malfunction Stop” message pop up on display yesterday evening, whilst parking car in supermarket. I could engage Drive, but the car would not move.

I called Mercedes Me, who passed me onto RAC/ recovery service. Five hours later, 3rd party recovery truck arrived to transport car to Mercedes of Bath. Bit of a problem because the handbrake would not disengage 😳. Called Mercedes Me, but the operator could not get through to a technical expert to advise 🙄. So the recovery guy had to jack the car up and put the rear wheels on dollies to get the car onto the back of the truck!

The car was taken to their depot overnight and is now on its way to Mercedes of Bath 🤪

This is the 2nd time in three weeks the car has been recovered to the main dealer (1st time with a coolant overheating fault) so I hope they make it a very high priority this time 🤷🏼‍♂️

regards

Rich 😉

MB of Bath believe the problem is a software problem, in that the main ECU cannot communicate with the transmission ECU. They will try to update transmission ECU software on Monday (2.5 hour job).

Unfortunately I will have to get the old Alfa Spider out of the garage again on Monday to get to the airport, we are flying out again for a few days away. Loan car declined again. I’m not happy with having it just to sit in an airport car park 😉

Hopefuly MB will fix the car before our return 🤷🏼‍♂️

Cheers Rich 😉

A friend of mine had a similar problem with his EQC. It wouldn't move and was showing a number of error messages. Before the roadside assist arrived he put the window down the problem resolved itself. The car was taken in for a software update for 4 days. Another time this friend was driving and a large piece of news paper flew across the front and the auto brake engaged almost causing an accident

10 days after being returned from the dealer the messsge appeared again yesterday. When they had the car, the dealer diagnosed that the main ECU had lost contact with the transmission ECU and ‘solved’ this with a software update. Yesterday the error message came up when my wife parked on the drive (car switched off we think) and left the drivers door open. After s couple of minutes a pinging was heard with the error message, parking brake engaged and the car would not move when switched on 😳

Mercedes Me contacted and RAC summoned. The patrol arrived within the hour and lo and behold, the error message had disappeared and the car would drive 🤪

He offered to follow my wife to MB of Bath. But being Saturday afternoon, she chose to wait until Monday to speak to the technical department.

the problem now is that we are losing confidence in the car and MB in general 😡

Update: we took the car to MB yesterday, they ran diagnostics, which confirmed the error had happened and then they experienced the same fault in the workshop, they were not able to move the car 🙄 until a “Ctrl/ Alt/ Delete” cleared the fault. Again they said ECUs had lost communication.

In parallel we were talking to the sales team to trade for a newer car. Which we will collect next week when we return the loan car. I won’t go into details but we are reasonably happy with the deal after losing confidence in the car.

i hope we don’t experience the same problem with the new car 😉
