Wind noise

Hi, I own my EQA for almost 15, yrs now and have enjoyed it a lot from the start.
Somehow however since 5-6 weeks the car starts to make a lot of noise at speeds from 70 km/hr or more. It seems driving-wind related. It depends a bit on how fast I drive and general wind direction, but it's loud and very annoying indeed. It's like a loud whistle and I'm even embarrassed to take someone with me in the car. I already tried replacing wipers but that didn't change anything and I looked all over whether I could find anything irregular that could cause this noise.
Anyone here has a similar experience or would know of a solution? I have an appointment at the dealer, but they are so busy that this will still take another 4 weeks...

I assume you meant 1.5 years and not 15 years

Not sure why you would think changing the wipers would help unless the noise is while using them.
By design the wipers are tucked away below the aerodynamic flow of wind when not in use so unless you are using them and the noise happens I doubt that would be a reason for noise.

I haven't had any noise issues on any MB I have ever owned however I did have issues twice with a BMW X3 turned out the the door seal had broken away and at speed caused a wind noise. Also had a similar issue with the Sunroof seal but the noise wasn't as bad as the door seal

But it could be anything there are many threads on here talking about the vent at the from that opens and closed so maybe that is stuck open or closed or has something stuck in it.

Also have you looked under the car make sure nothing is out of place or hanging that it would catch wind and when at speed would make a loud noise.

It will be interesting to hear what your dealer says the source of the noise is

Thanks for your reply @Pacman-BNE-NL and yes of course I meant 1,5 years - I put the comma a character too far away :)
The noise clearly comes from outside and the front part of the car, not from the sides and not from within. It's really a mystery to me, hence I was hoping someone here would have some sort of idea. I'll keep you posted in case I find out, which I hope will be soon because it's really driving me crazy!
Unfortunately I have nothing to compare it with as I am still waiting for my EQA to be delivered so only have my A200 to go by which is whisper quiet even with an ICE so that's of no help to you sorry. Not sure who your dealer is in NL I normally go to Gomes in Aalsmeer they have always been pretty good but as you have already stated are always busy so any appointment is at least 4 week lead time for non critical problems

Have you checked underneath the car as suggested or the plastic wheel arches maybe something there has been damaged and is causing the wind noise?

I am currently monitoring the front (radiator) shutters ("vents") on my EQA with a reversing camera and even at 70-80 kph - or even higher speeds - I haven't heard any noise from the front when the shutters are open (or closed). In my experience, the shutters either open or are closed - not partially open.

If for some reason they were not closing properly, perhaps that could generate a whistling noise. I would be surprised if such a noise were "loud", yet maybe, if it's generated by a small gap - with the wind also a factor - it could be. The EQA is otherwise so quiet, apart from on some of our Australian coarse-surfaced roads.

I agree with both of these points.

Thanks, but yes I checked everything everywhere but really cannot figure out what the heck is the cause of this bloody noise
I cannot locate the thread but mbworld forum has had numerous threads over time on this sort of issue with all models. I think on the eclass there was an issue with the rubber window seals needing slight adjustment. In trying to find the thread I did come across someone reporting the wind noise on a GLA in fact caused by a wing mirror which had been knocked out of alignment. Such issues are really frustrating for the driver and equally I suspect for the garages I trying to identify and rectify. You have my sympathy.

Found a link, the poster suggesting having the rubber door seals adjusted is French based though Dutch national and is sound in a lot of his posts so I would raise this with your garage also note the ref to adjustment to the door glass rubbers. Now these do relate to the e class 213 is current model but the EQA basic body is of the same era for design albeit carries the new style interior. Hopefully this will at least give you some talking pints with your garage. Admin no offence intended and hopefully you will accept a referral to another forum in an attempt to aid a fellow EV forum member.

I am experiencing the exact same thing with my EQE after owning for 3 months almost. I thought I did something to the exterior that is causing this noise. I can’t figure it out. I thought it’s the wind but it’s constant at a high speed. Any answers?

I just pulled over the side of the road because this wind noise got much louder. I pulled off a long taped (yellow tape) piece of plastic. I’m not sure if this was part of the delivery protection. My car was untouched new and maybe this was part of the wrapping. This was on drivers side. It was dragging - hence the noise. Passenger side still has that piece taped. Will ask dealer. Look under the driver side door and it’s about a 36 inch piece of taped hard plastic. At least this was the culprit for me. Seems to serve no purpose but best to check w dealer. Thank you!
I have the same issue with my EQA, Suddenly a whistling noise while highway driving. This also happened after about 1,5 years? strange and annoying!
Have you checked, if the windows are fully closed? Some cars might loose the end stop position of the windows and might need to be recalibrated. If the window is even opened a little bit (glas is still in upper frame), it gets quite loud.
If the noise just comes from one side, I would do the following as a test. Put a marker on the glas at the highest position (same painters tape) and open the window to half. Measure the distance from the tape to the end of the glas. The distance should be the same for both sides. Front and back windows may differ.

No need to go through all this. There is a youtube video on how to do this that has been uploaded by a gentleman called Nick Oleary. It is just a case of hitting and holding key buttons in a certain sequence on the remote control.
Sorry, I do not have the link.

Here is the general one.......

Hi all,
Well the issue finally got resolved. It took the dealer 1,5 days to figure it out. It turned out to be the plastic tray (don’t know the proper English term) that prevents leaves from entering under the engine compartment , below the front wipers and between window and bonnet. It somehow got slightly deformed and that caused this very annoying and very loud whistling sound.
Finally I’m enjoying a nice and quiet EV experience again 😅
Thanks again for all that tried getting this resolved!

regards
AJ
I presume you mean the mesh screen between the top rear of the engine bay - where there's a rubber seal, which seals against the bonnet when it's closed - and the bottom of the windscreen?

If my assumption is correct, given your experience, it must have required quite a bit of research & development time to make that screen - when it's correctly fitted! - so that it creates no audible noise in the cabin.

When I was contemplating the purchase of my EQA, my salesman said Mercedes put a lot of effort into making the EQA quiet, and a number of those features are fitted to other models, thereby enhancing their quietness. I have no reason to disbelieve him.
